At The Miami Herald Sports Banquet, May 28, the Athletic Program at Our Lady of Lourdes Academy was named the Best Female Athletic Program in Dade County, in class 6A-5A, for the sixth consecutive year, and the ninth time overall.
In addition, the school received the following accolades:
Three of our coaches were named "Coach of the Year," in their respective sport, for Class 6A. These coaches are:
Chris McKeon :: Basketball Coach of the Year, Class 6A
Ray Walden :: Soccer Coach of the Year, Class 6A
Rebecca Rodriguez Michalak :: Cross Country Coach of the Year, Class 6A
Congratulations to Takia Brooks ('10), who was named Basketball Player of the Year, for Class 6A.
Special recognition goes to Cristina Brea, the salutatorian of the Class of 2010, who was a Scholar Athlete Finalist and Athlete of the Year Finalist.
Moreover, 10 of our students were named First-Team All-County Athletes, in their respective sport. These girls are:
Cross Country :: Cristina Brea, Courtney Filliben, Alessandra Valdes, and Victoria Villarnovo
Soccer :: Grace Cervoni, Andrea de Oña, and Carolina Garcia
Volleyball :: Carolina Nuche
Basketball :: Takia Brooks and Michelle Merritt
Lastly, special thanks to the school community for voting for our student athletes during the "La Ley Sports All-County Outstanding Senior" Competition. Three of our students were nominated for this honor - Takia Brooks, Andrea de Oña and Cristina Brea, and thanks to your support, two of these athletes won their respective division. The winners are:
